Mother Goose and two visitors. Usually she's alone, sitting on her eggs. Mallards, sea gulls and pigeons fly by, but don't come too close to the nest. Today, however, a male mallard (top picture, with his foot in the air) and an American Coot stopped by to sit with Mother Goose. (This picture is deceiving. The coot and duck are not sitting on the piling where the nest is, they are on a plank in the water.) Father Goose was probably nearby, but I didn't see him.

I'd never seen an American Coot before, so I checked my bird book and some sites on the web and learned a little about them.
